‘This year is flying by’

This is the day the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it and this is a beautiful day. Sun shining and bright and the end of April. Wow! This year sure is flying by.

Since I’ve written this column a third cousin of mine Nellie Hampton Scaggs passed away. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. She was the daughter of the late Buck and Peach Hampton. She was married to Carl Scaggs. He survives along with a son and some grandchildren. One special grandson Jack who she and Carl raised. She also leaves two brothers Jack and Junior and some sisters but I don’t know all of their names. But you all have my deepest sympathy. May God Bless you all.

Some one knocked on my door Tuesday and when I opened it, I was real shocked, there stood my nephew Pete Shoemaker and wife Ruth from Bath, Ill. Came all the way down just to see me. How nice of them.

Ivan Brown of St. Charles also recently passed away. He had been in ill health for several years. He was 80. His parents were the late Hughey and Mae (Copeland) Brown. I think the kids were all born at Jewett and went to school there. He had two sisters and three brothers, only one left. His name is Jerry. Ivan was married to Leota King from Crane Pond. They have two sons Terry and Mike who survive. Ivan was also my third cousin. My deepest sympathy goes out to Leota and sons, and other loved ones. May God bless you all.

The Jewett 4-H are getting ready for their yearly big day May 16. They have a lot of food for supper, several things to choose from. If you’ve never been there, you’d never believe the different things they auction off nor the outlandish prices they get for the stuff. I’ve been there about every year, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to go this year. This old gray mare just ain’t what she used to be.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there. I hope you had a great day.

Our Pastor Bro. Bob McKinney is still in therapy. He says he thinks two more weeks and he will be out. But I think he had those same thoughts a time or two before. We sure do miss them at church. His wife Pat has been nursing a toe with a bone broke in it. Sure hope she’s doing okay by now. Keep them in your prayers.

Remember Pete and Pat William in your prayers too. Pete just isn’t doing good at all.

The Annapolis Cemetery will have its gathering the third Saturday in May which will be the 16th. I’m not sure what all they do. I know they have food and I believe a board meeting, and a lot of visiting.

On down the road and out F Highway about five miles, the Meadows Cemetery has its Memorial gathering the same da,y May 16. They have a meeting, a short memorial service and lots of food and visiting.
