Seven Cats qualify for state track meet

The Class 3 Sectional 1 track meet was held at Lutheran High School Saturday.

Seven Fredericktown athletes qualified to participate at this week’s State Meet in Jefferson City. Only the top four finishers in each event at sectionals advance to the State Meet.

The district champion Blackcats saw four athletes able to place in the top four of their respective events. Zack Keller placed first in the discus with a throw of 143’2” which was 10 feet farther than the nearest competitor. Bernard Dorsey finished third in the 400m run with a time of 51.99, Patrick Smothers placed fourth in the long jump with distance of 19’11.75”, and Caleb Carver took fourth in the shot put at 43’4”.

The Lady Cats qualified three athletes in six events. AnnaBeth Phillips took first in the 3200m with a time of 12:25.05, and she placed third in both the 800m and 1600m runs. Alyssa Jordan qualified third in the discus, and fourth in the shot put, and Kirsten Hanner took fourth in the discus.
