UPCOMING LOCAL SPORTS EVENTS

Local sports events will be announced in the Daily Journal on Tuesday, Friday and Weekend Editions for two weeks preceding the event. Please send an announcement of your upcoming event to the sports department no sooner than three weeks before the event or its registration deadline by either phone (573) 431-2010, FAX (573) 431-7640 or drop it off by person at the Daily Journal office in Park Hills.

Tennis Clinic – June 1-4

North County High School will again have its annual tennis clinic to be held on June 1-4 for students grades 1-8 and grades 9-12. The clinic for grades 1-8 will be from 8:30 a.m.–noon, and the clinic for high school players will be from 10-11:30 a.m. The cost is $20 per players and parents may fill out registration forms on the first day of the clinic. Volleyball Leagues – June 1 – July 14

Mineral Area College will be holding summer volleyball leagues this summer for high school and junior high players. The high school (JV and varsity) league will be played on Monday nights, from June 1- July 13, and the Jr. High league will be on Tuesday nights from June 2-July 14. The cost is $150 per team. Volleyball Camps – June 1 – July 11

Mineral Area College will be holding three camps, Individual, Specialty and Team this summer for volleyball players, grades 5-12.

There will be an Individual Camp which will be held from June 1-4 which teaches the basic fundamentals of the game by the MAC coaching staff and players. The cost is $60 for eight hours of instruction (2 hours per day) and t-shirt. Times for players entering 5th and 6th – 8-10 a.m., for 7th and 8th – 10 a.m.-12 p.m., and for 9th – 12th 1-3 p.m.

The Specialty Camp will be held on June 8 and will have one-on-one instruction. The cost for defensive specialists is $25 and will be held from 8-10 a.m., and the cost is $50 for setters and hitters to be held in two sessions from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m. Registration forms for Individual and Specialty Camps must be turned in by June 1 to receive correct t-shirt size.

The Team Camp will be a one day tournament play on July 11 with varsity and JV divisions. The cost is $100 per team. Basketball Camp – June 9-11

Coach Gary Koch and the Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals will hold a Basketball Skills and Fundamental Camp for boys and girl in grades 3-8 on June 9-11 at the college’s Fieldhouse. Camp 1 is for grades 3-5 and will be held from 8-10 a.m. each day. Camp 2 is for grades 6-8 and will be held from 10:30-12:30 each day. The cost is $55 per player if registered before June 1, and $65 for on-site which includes a t-shirt. Two or more campers from a family is $5 off.
