Bulldogs lead with seven all-MAAA picks

The West County baseball team posted a .392 batting average during an 18-win season, and fell one victory shy of reaching the Class 3 final four.

Despite a second-place conference finish behind eventual Class 2 state champion Valle Catholic, the Bulldogs led the Small-School division with seven all-MAAA selections.

Junior center fielder Parker Forshee paced West County with a .595 average, 47 hits, 39 runs scored and 32 RBI. He also homered in back-to-back playoff games.

Senior Clayton Brinkley batted .493 and joins teammates Tyler Neubrand and Jared Jones on the First Team for the Bulldogs.

Valle Catholic repeated as state champions last week and capped consecutive 30-win seasons in the process. Six Warriors were named all-conference, including four on the First Team.

Daniel Bergtholdt punctuated his high school career by striking out 14 during a complete game in the state semifinal round. Shortstop Connor Basler, catcher Cole Wood and outfielder Koltyn Schilly also represent Valle Catholic.

Hayden Helvey of Arcadia Valley and Gavin Heath of Kingston complete the Small-School First Team.

The Large-School First Team spans players from all six member schools, several of whom shared duties at the pitcher and shortstop positions.

Senior right-hander Dylan Coleman and catcher Luke Jacobsen made the list for regular-season champion Potosi, which also claimed the Class 4, District 2 crown.

Farmington broke a program record by winning 18 consecutive games before falling to Jackson in a district semifinal, and also claimed the MAAA tournament title.

Logan Winder and Brayden Krause give the Knights two First Team choices, while juniors Jake Bridges and Keenan Johnson made the cut from Central.

The First Team also includes Ste. Genevieve standouts Drew Schmelzle and Cody Stacy, along with Fredericktown pitcher Brennan White and North County center fielder Dylan Kater.
