Chamber warns: do not divulge personal information
The Ste. Genevieve Area Chamber of Commerce is cautioning the public to beware of scammers calling on the telephone claiming to be associated with the chamber and requesting personal data.
According to chamber officials, people started notifying the office Thursday about telephone calls they had received from someone claiming to represent the organization.
In an effort to obtain confidential data, the caller reportedly is telling the area residents and businesses contacted that the chamber is updating its records, according to a posting on the chamber’s Facebook page.
The posting notes that the organization does not collect personal information.
The caller claiming to be associated with the chamber reportedly telephones from the number 402-509-5055, according to the Facebook post.
Local authorities have been notified.
Anyone who receives this type of call is asked to contact the chamber office at 573-883-3686 or the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office at 573-883-5820.
