MAC to host breakfast for all FRJC alums

(PARK HILLS) — As Mineral Area College celebrates its 50th anniversary, alumni of its predecessor, Flat River Junior College (established 1922), are invited to a special breakfast at 8:30 a.m., Aug. 5, at the Park Hills campus North College Center.

RSVPs are being accepted until July 27. FRJC alums and their guests should RSVP soon by calling 573-518-2114.

Mineral Area College President, Dr. Steve Kurtz, emphasized the importance of alumni stories and memories in preserving the institution’s history.

“We are inching closer to the 100-year anniversary and these foundational graduates hold our history,” he said.

The breakfast will provide an opportunity to share stories, memorabilia, photos, old college newspapers and camaraderie. FRJC was founded in 1922 and has played an integral role in lives spanning over nine decades.

Kevin Thurman, assistant to the president and director of MAC Foundation, handles the college’s alumni relations. He said he’s appreciated meeting many of the alums who remember the college during simpler times.

“This is a great opportunity for FRJC alumni to get together and discuss past times such as remembering classmates, instructors and coaches,” Thurman said. “I look forward to hearing the stories and of past experiences from the FRJC alumni.”
