Mineral Area Sting are best in state

Fredericktown girls Ava Penuel and Linley Rehkop, members of the Mineral Area 10U All-Star softball team, traveled two weekends ago to Booneville to compete for a state championship. The team went undefeated, capturing the state title in its division.

The team continued its dominance on the diamond as it breezed through the Babe Ruth Midwest Plains Regional Softball Tournament undefeated at 5-0, outscoring their opponents 68-11 with a potent offense which scored no less than 12 runs in each game. The All-Stars defeated the host team Cottonwood Valley, 17-2, in the championship game which earned them a trip to the Babe Ruth World Series to be held in Alachua County, Fla., July 29-August 5.

Ava Penuel received Most Valuable Player in State Tournament. Linley Rehkop drove in the winning run in Regional Tournament.
