Christmas Angels raise money during auction

The Leadwood Christmas Angels held one of their annual fundraisers over the weekend to help raise money to buy Christmas gifts for the children in need in the area.

Christmas Angels volunteer Mary Gilbert said they helped 33 kids and 84 veterans last year for Christmas and they hope to do the same again this year. She added that if they help that many again they will be doing well.

“I think the auction went pretty well considering it was the first day of deer season and we have all the ladies out here shopping having a good time,” said Gilbert. “We didn’t have as big of a turnout as we had thought we would, but we are doing okay. The food is also going good because everyone is always hungry. We really just appreciate everybody that did come out to the auction and to all of our events this past year.”

Prior to Christmas, the Leadwood Fire District and the Christmas Angels will be sponsoring their Annual Christmas Party for kids and their families at the fire house. Each year the party gets bigger and there were about 200 children in attendance at last year’s event.

The Christmas Angels is made up of 12 members and they hold their meetings at Mary’s Hair Styles and Tanning in Leadwood. Each year the members of the non-profit group get information about families who could use some help at Christmas from the West County School District, including the children’s clothing size and their wish list of toys or other items.
