Lula Mae LaPlant

Lula Mae LaPlant, 85, of Fredericktown, died Friday, January 1, 2016 at her residence. She was born March 2, 1930 in Claypool, Ariz., daughter of Saba and Leona Fay (Turner) Halby.

Lula married Rex Thornley. He preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death are her parents; son Rex Thornley who died in 2008 in Vietnam; and brothers Michael Halby and Donnie Halby.

Survivors include daughter Charlene “Sherry” Welch-Sunyich of Fredericktown; grandchildren Tammy Renee Welch and James Larry Welch; great-grandchildren Josh, Tasha, Jake, Jake, and Connor.

Lula was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed farming, yardwork, singing, dancing, playing guitar, sewing, and puzzles. She was also a wonderful loving mother and grandmother.

Funeral services were Jan. 7 at Follis & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Bess officiating. Burial was in the Christian Cemetery.
