BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Mallory Pappert slugged a 3-run home run and Samantha Ratledge finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored on Monday as the Mineral Area softball team topped the Lindenwood-Belleville junior varsity 8-6.
Michala Martin, Emily Robinson and winning pitcher Shayla Jansson notched two hits each as the Lady Cardinals picked up two key insurance runs in the seventh inning to hold on.
Alix Adams provided a big 2-RBI double for Mineral Area in a game that was tied 4-4 after one inning. Jansson allowed six runs, two earned, on nine hits and struck out four.
Mineral Area staged a late comeback in a second contest against the Clarke University junior varsity, but dropped a 9-8 decision in walk-off fashion.
Courtney Zweifel powered the offense by going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and Martin ended her day a combined 5-for-8 after notching three more singles.
The Lady Cards wasted a 6-2 lead as Clarke retaliated with six consecutive runs, but prolonged the action by scoring twice in the top of the seventh inning after trailing 8-6.
Adams was 2-for-3 with an RBI double while Pappert had an RBI hit and Olivia Siebert doubled.
Mineral Area (12-11) will travel to East Central for an important Region 16 doubleheader on Tuesday.
