Community Day at Iron Mountain Lake this Saturday
The Iron Mountain Lake C.I.T.Y. Group (Community Improvement Thru You) will be holding their annual “Community Day” event Saturday from 8 a.m. to dusk.
Mayor Dustin Steinc said the morning will start off with raking the lake like they do every year. Everyone gets together to help clean the dead leaves out of the lake.
“There will be a pig roast and beer garden,” said Steinc. “The food will be $5 a plate and there will be games such as a watermelon eating contest, a seed spitting contest, a cake walk, sack race, greased pig and more.”
There will also be karaoke, a photo booth, a ball toss game and a 50/50 drawing. The games will start at noon and they will start serving food at 11:30 a.m.
The events will happen at the swimming area in Iron Mountain Lake near Joplin and West Lake Shore streets. Steinc said they will have a DJ playing music and the proceeds go toward the pavilion and other community projects.
They held a meat shoot recently that raised approximately $500 for the firehouse they want to build in the community. Steinc said they hope that by the end of next year they will have raised enough money to secure the land and lay the foundation.
He added they are also moving along with a new city hall. Steinc said right now they are looking at four different properties and will be getting some areas surveyed.
“Hopefully we will get rolling on that in the next two months or so,” the mayor added. “As soon as we get the property secured we can start building.”
The temporary city hall is set up in front of the site where the longtime city hall was located before it was destroyed by fire several months ago.
The C.I.T.Y. group will also be hosting a Glory Days Glo Run/Walk on July 2 and pledge packets are available at city hall.
The lake development will also be holding the annual Dam Festival on Sept. 10.
