If you’re looking for a taste of live music in a historical setting this summer, the 2016 Summer Music Series at the Orris Theater in Ste. Genevieve may be just the ticket.
Hosted by the Ste. Genevieve Chamber of Commerce and featuring a variety of musical styles ranging from jazz, Motown, disco, soul, blues, rock, pop, country, bandstand favorites and tributes to the Beatles and Garth Brooks, the series is set to run June 3 through July 29.
“The Summer Music Series is really a wonderful opportunity to have exciting musical talent come to our area,” said Sandra Cabot, Ste. Genevieve’s director of tourism. “It really adds to the mix of things for people to do while they’re visiting Ste. Genevieve. We just couldn’t be more pleased about what the summer music series adds to our offering here.”
Now in its eighth season, the summer concert series brings regional and national touring acts to perform onstage at the Orris, a former movie theater renovated in the mid-1980s by owners of the adjacent Sirros Restaurant.
The first featured performer, scheduled for this Friday, will be Nathan Aaron Orr portraying Garth Brooks in his “Shameless: A Tribute to Garth Brooks” show.
Orr, a native of St. Louis, frequently performs in the St. Louis area with The Rough Riders cover band. Orr has been an area winner of the Colgate Country Showdown, now the Texaco Country Showdown, joining some of the biggest names in country music, including Brad Paisley, Sara Evans and Garth Brooks.
Tickets for Orr’s show are $20 if purchased in person from the chamber of commerce.
Also in this year’s lineup will be PowerPlay on June 10, a dance band specializing in classy, high-energy entertainment combining disco, jazz, Motown and R&B classics. Tickets are $12.50 each if purchased in person from the chamber.
On June 17, 30 Year Gap will entertain the crowd with classic tunes of the 80s, 90s and today from groups such as The Cars, Queen, Foreigner, Journey, Blondie, Billy Squier, No Doubt, The Pretenders, Billy Idol, Modern English, Robert Palmer and Evanescence.
Tickets for this show are $12.50 if purchased in person from the chamber.
The Abby Road Warriors, a Beatles tribute band, will perform on June 24 for $15 per ticket.
July’s featured performers include Spanky’s Dueling Pianos on the second Friday of the month, Bob Kuban and the In-Men on July 15 and Ste. Genevieve’s “Hometown Star” Laura Ashley on July 22.
Rounding out the series on July 29 will be the Soulard Blues Band.
