‘You Are the Light’ returns for 10th year
First Baptist Church of Farmington is once again organizing their local mission project known as “You are the Light” Family Mission Project.
During the week of June 20-24, from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily, volunteers taking part in the project are ready to help families in Farmington and the surrounding area by completing tasks that the homeowners would have difficulty completing because of age, disability, or possibly finances.
This marks the 10th year for the project. More than 600 families have benefited from “YATL” since 2007 with projects completed around their homes by volunteers with the week-long event.
Projects include power-washing the outside of homes, washing windows, yard clean-up with grass mowing and trimming, painting projects, ramp repair, gutter clean-up, the installation of smoke detectors and many others.
Volunteers evaluate each project to determine the feasibility of being able to complete it during the week.
“The congregation of First Baptist Church would like to let the people of the Farmington area know that we do care and that we will help if we can,” said organizer Chuck Henson.” Each year we have over 100 people participate in the mission project. Our goal is to let the love of Jesus Christ shine through each of us.”
The congregation uses the words of Matthew 5:16 as a foundation for their mission statement at First Baptist: “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Farmington residents who have a possible project, or those who know someone in the Farmington area with a possible project, are asked contact the office at Farmington First Baptist Church at 573-756-4654 or Henson at 573-756-1362.
