MAC, FRJC alumni breakfast planned
As Mineral Area College anticipates its centennial, alumni of MAC and its predecessor, Flat River Junior College are invited to a special breakfast at 8:30 a.m., Aug. 4, at the North College Center on the Park Hills campus.
RSVPs are being accepted until July 25. MAC and FRJC alums and their guests should RSVP soon by calling 573-518-2114.
Mineral Area College’s president, Dr. Steve Kurtz, emphasized the importance of alumni stories and memories in preserving the institution’s history.
“With the centennial celebration on the horizon, the history shared by the foundational graduates continues to be the gateway to our future,” he said.
The breakfast will provide an opportunity to share stories, memorabilia, photos, old college newspapers and camaraderie. FRJC was founded in 1922 and has played an integral role in lives spanning over nine decades. The college became MAC in 1965, and celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
Kevin Thurman, director of development, handles the college’s alumni relations. He said he’s appreciated meeting many of the alums who share stories from their times at the college.
“Being a MAC alum myself, I have developed an appreciation for those who came before us,” he said. “Stepping back and seeing the spectrum of growth of the college over the years also inspires hope for the lives MAC will continue to mold in the future.”

Flat River Junior College and Mineral Area College alumni gather around memorabilia during the community college’s 2015’s alumni breakfast. Another breakfast is planned for Aug. 5. Pictured are, from left, Charles and Betty Bequette, Donna and Gary White, and Francis Carrow.
