Area man killed in crash Saturday

Warren O. Smith, 64, of Washington, Mo. was killed when his van collided with a car on Route OO in Fredericktown at 4:25 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Smith was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Astro Van north on Route OO when it was struck in the side by a westbound 2001 Mercury Sable.

Smith was ejected when the van overturned off of the road. He was taken to Madison Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:46 p.m. by Dr. Patel Ashvin.

Mary R. Foster, 78, of Fredericktown, the driver of the Mercury, had no reported injuries and was wearing a seat belt; however, Smith was not wearing a safety belt in the crash.
