All’s Fair

It’s time for the Madison County Fair.

Pick up a Fair Book in Fredericktown at the Democrat News office, Ward’s Farm Center, Madison County Farm Supply, the Madison County Extension Center and other sponsor locations. There is a full schedule of events on page 10A of this issue, and the Democrat News will have photos and more coverage of the fair online at www.democratnewsonline.com and in the Oct. 12 print edition.

The carnival will open at 5 p.m., Thursday to kick off the fair.

Friday, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., special demonstrations for school-age children will fill the park as kids travel from station to station visiting the petting zoo, learning roping skills, goat milking, and more. New this year, with support from the Mineral Area Council on the Arts, puppeteer Paul Vandivort from St. Louis will perform three shows for visiting students.

Don’t forget to submit your canned good donations for the food pantry and the Mr. and Miss Madison County competition by 3:30 p.m. Friday at Madison County Farm Supply. Family and Environmental Science submissions will be accepted at the Fairgrounds from 4-6 p.m. and the carnival will begin at 5 p.m.

Saturday, activities start with a 5K Color Run to benefit Relay for Life sponsored by the FHS FCCLA. Registration is at 7 a.m. on the courthouse square and the race begins at 8 a.m. All livestock must be in place by 8 a.m. for the livestock show. Don’t miss the Kelly A. Burlison Middle school “Treble Makers” performance on the JC Stage at 9 a.m. The livestock show will also begin at 9 a.m., vendor and craft booths open and the Dixie Lee Quilters’ Guild Quilt Show begins in the Madison County Court House.

Back by popular demand, Madame Rosa will be giving several shows of her exotic animals throughout the day.

Free games and activities for kids include a Kiddie Tractor Pull, Jr. Cow Milking Contest, Turtle races, Greased Pig Contest, and Jr. Super Farmer contest. There will be live music by “Night Train” and “Kyn and Dano with Hunter Club” on the JC Stage starting at 11 a.m. The horseshoe tournament begins at noon and lawnmower races at 2:30 p.m.

The Truck and Tractor Pull, featuring the Bootheel Pullers, starts at noon. Trucks are encouraged to enter with additional cash prizes this year. Contact Chris McClanahand at 573-561-3069 for more information on the truck pulls.

Chili Cook-Off Saturday on East Main

Fredericktown Fire Department members and their families will be hosting a Chili Cook-Off, Saturday, on East Main Street in Fredericktown.

Cooking begins at 8 a.m. There will be games and face painting, starting at 10 a.m. Chili sampling starts at 11 a.m. Voting ends at 1:30 p.m., and awards will be at 2:30 p.m. There will be entertainment and demonstrations throughout the day. Also, there will be a jalapeno eating contest at 2 p.m.
