Blackcats fall to Rebels

The Blackcats Football Team took on undefeated Central, Friday, here.

The visiting Rebels went to 7-0 with a 44-0 victory over the Cats, 2-5.

Both teams’ defenses played a strong first quarter. Central got on the scoreboard early in the second. Quarterback Jace Bland connected with Triston Campbell for a six-yard score, capping a 11-play, 51-yard drive. The 2-point conversion made it 8-0 with 10:46 to play in the half. Central took advantage of a bad punt snap and a short field to score its next touchdown. Evan Sidebottom went five yards for the score, and it was 16-0 with 8:44 to play.

The Rebels got their third score of the period on a 2-yard run by Campbell. It was 24-0 with 3:30 to play in the half.

Matt Richardson returned an interception 45 yards for score in the third quarter. Nick Haney also had a 42-yard touchdown run in the third. The final score came with 7:33 to play in the game, as Davian Powell ran 27 yards for a touchdown.

The Cats struggled to find any running room on offense. Through the air, Colton Rehkop completed 13 passes for 101 yards. Cody Smith had four catches for 56 yards.

Defensively, Austin Dowd had 11 total tackles, and Matthew Williams had eight. Williams also recovered a fumble, forced by Noah Korokis.

Fredericktown hosts St. Mary’s (St. Louis), Friday for Homecoming. The Dragons are 4-3, following a 51-13 loss, Friday, at St. Dominic.
