Tennis Cats take second in District, doubles duo advances
The Fredericktown High School Tennis Team took second place in the Class 1, District 2 Tournament Wednesday at Windsor.
The Cats defeated St. Pius, 5 matches to 2, Sept. 27 to reach the district championship against top seed, Windsor.
Against the host top-seeded Owls, Fredericktown lost 5-3.
In singles, Maddie was trailing 5-2 in her uncompleted match. Bailey Stamp lost 6-0, 6-1; Morgan Brunk lost 6-1, 6-3; Lauryn Edwards lost 7-6, 6-1; Maddie Burrows won 6-1, 6-3; and Victoria Peppers won 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles, Rehkop/Stamp won 8-5; Brunk/Burrows lost 8-4, and Edwards/Peppers lost 8-2.
Rehkop and Stamp took first place Saturday in the District Doubles Tournament. The Lady Cats duo won 6-1, 6-3 over North County’s Libby Slinkard and Jasmyne Love. They
advanced to the State Sectionals Tuesday, Oct. 4 (after press time).
Volleyball Cats start postseason next week
The Lady Cats Volleyball Team lost 25-22, 25-15 to Jackson, Monday night, here.
The Lady Blackcats had just posted three wins and two ties in six matches last weekend at the Perryville Tournament, and were riding another favorable start.
But a sudden issue with serve receiving manifested into nine consecutive Jackson points, and the visiting Lady Indians seized control for a 25-22, 25-15 victory.
Against Jackson, Raylyn Dodd had nine kills and 12 digs. Taylor McMurry finished with five kills. Abby Parson and Calie Burns each added five digs for the Cats (9-12-3). Mattie Whitworth led with 10 assists and Brooklynn Hudson had seven.
The Lady Cats were 3-1-1 in the Perryville Tournament, Saturday. They defeated North County, 25-15, 25-21. They split with Advance, 14-25, 25-23. They defeated Clearwater, 25-20, 25-16 and De Soto, 25-17, 17-25, 25-23. They then lost to Lesterville, 22-25, 19-25.
The Lady Cats have completed their regular season and will compete in the MAAA Tournament, next week.
Softball team in post-season play
The Lady Cats Softball Team lost a pair of games in the MAAA Tournament Tournament last week. Seeded fifth, the Cats lost to No. 4 Ste. Genevieve, 14-10, Monday. Tuesday, they lost to No. 6 Potosi, 6-1.
FHS takes on host Cape Central in the District Tournament, today.
Soccer Cats at home, today
The Fredericktown High School Soccer Team lost 5-2 to Farmington, Thursday, here.
The Cats host Saxony Lutheran today (Oct. 5).
