Post players power Lady Cards to win
CHICAGO – Hannah Taulien moved into the starting lineup and recorded her first collegiate double-double on Saturday for the Mineral Area women’s basketball team.
The sophomore center totaled 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Cardinals dominated inside for a 73-53 victory over outnumbered Malcolm X.
Olivia White compiled 14 points in just 13 minutes, and Jolee Carswell had 12 points as Mineral Area (4-3) collected 16 offensive rebounds in the game.
The Lady Cardinals were never threatened after jumping ahead 22-9 in the first quarter, and entered halftime with a 36-22 advantage.
Hayley Winter contributed a season-high 10 assists while adding seven points and six rebounds as MAC earned its third straight win.
Khiandra Perry chipped in nine points and Laura Dick finished with eight. Mineral Area went 11-of-33 from 3-point range.
Breneka Walker scored a game-high 25 points and JayShari Chears netted 21 as Malcolm X (1-4) competed with six active players.
