The City of Leadwood is holding a public Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in Leadwood City Park.
Santa Claus will also be in attendance to hear Christmas wishes, help spread some holiday cheer and for family pictures. In addition, complimentary hot chocolate and coffee will be served to help keep everybody warm.
Because of repeated acts of vandalism in past years, the city’s supply of Christmas lights and decorations had dwindled to the point that last year, the park remained dark throughout the holiday season.
After a complaint about the lack of city Christmas decorations by a Leadwood resident at a city board meeting at the end of last year, volunteers stepped up to donate lights for the trees in the city park. Alderman Charlie Lewis said that thanks to the support of local citizens, the park will be looking much more festive this year.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event.
Leadwood City Park is located between Birch Street and E. Warner Drive/Highway 8.
