Dragons beat Valle after opening with 12-0 run

STE. GENEVIEVE – Madison Reynolds and Avery Reed posted double-doubles, and the Ste. Genevieve girls basketball team topped neighboring Valle Catholic 66-38 on Saturday.

The Dragons opened with a 12-0 run that spanned more than six minutes, and continued to dominate the boards throughout the contest.

Reynolds scored 21 of her 23 points before halftime, and also recorded 10 rebounds with six assists to pace Ste. Genevieve (9-5).

Reed likewise used a productive first half to finish with 12 points and 17 rebounds. Deryn Brown added nine points and Courtney Donze had seven in the victory.

Sydni Basler scored 14 of her 17 points for Valle Catholic (3-11) in the fourth quarter. She followed a 3-pointer with three steals and three layups, all within a minute of action.

The Lady Warriors committed only two turnovers in the second half, but faced an insurmountable 38-12 deficit at the break.

Reynolds attacked the basket often, and converted multiple second-chance shots. Her conventional 3-point play answered one by Valle’s Allison Bahr for a 20-7 advantage.

Ste. Genevieve enjoyed a 21-4 scoring edge in the second quarter.
