Henderson is Star Service Team Member for January

Parkland Health Center is pleased to announce that Faye Henderson has been selected as the Star Service Team Member for January 2017.

Henderson has worked at Parkland Health Center and its predecessor, Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, for 20 years. Henderson worked as a housekeeper at Mineral Area, and then at Parkland until recently when she began in the position of lab transporter at Parkland.

In Henderson’s new position of lab transporter, she is responsible for personally meeting each out-patient at the registration desk and escorting him or her to the appropriate testing area. She likes many things about her new position, including the opportunity to meet, engage with and help people on a daily basis.

“I love working around people,” she said. “I’m happier now that I’ve ever been in my life! You are never too old to learn.”

The nomination from Henderson’s peers reads in part, “The January Star Service employee has come to the lab from housekeeping and has been a great asset. She works well with the lab staff by completing tasks quickly and always with a smile. She is kind to our patients as she takes them to the next department so the patients do not have to wait any longer than necessary. She does not tell the patients where to go, or point, but she kindly walks them. If our patients need a drink of water, she gets it for them right away. She helps keep the front draw room clean and well supplied. Because she keeps our work area well stocked, the phlebotomists are able to give their attention to the patient and not be distracted by looking for supplies. We enjoy her pleasant personality and are very grateful we have her on our lab team.”

“My first response was disbelief – I thought there had been a mistake,” she said when hearing of the award. “I was overwhelmed. This is a great honor.”

Parkland Health Center is part of BJC HealthCare which also includes St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the teaching hospitals for Washington University School of Medicine.
