City Council swears in re-elected aldermen

The Fredericktown City Council met for its regular meeting on April 10 at City Hall. The council administered oaths of office for re-elected or reappointed city officials, following the April 4 election.

Richard Polete and Paul Brown took the oaths of office for alderman of Ward 2 and Ward 1, respectively. Polete was elected to be President of the Council. Re-elected Ward 3 alderman Loretta Brown was absent and will take her oath of office at a later time.

Barbara Stevens and Bimbi Lopez were reappointed to the positions of City Clerk and Deputy Clerk, respectively, and took oaths of office. The council also reappointed City Attorney Mary Boner.

In the work session before the meeting, the council approved a tabled request from the March 27 council work session related to the replacement of an oxidation ditch rotor for the Wastewater Department. The council had voted to table the request because of concerns over the disparity between the lowest and second-lowest bid.

Wastewater Plant Manager Vince Grieshaber said he had further inquired to ensure the work done by the low bidder, Equipment Pro, Inc. of Ste. Genevieve would be warrantied. The council voted to approve the request and to have Equipment Pro, Inc. replace the rotor.

The council also approved a travel request for City Building Inspector Richard Macke to attend a Floodplain Management Conference in Kansas City from April 30 to May 5.

Juli Kline spoke to the council on behalf of the Optimist Club regarding a request to use city property for fireworks on the Fourth of July, which the council approved. The council also approved a request from the City Electric Department to purchase a transformer for the new intermediate school addition.

In closed session, the council handled two real estate matters and one personnel matter.

The Fredericktown City Council will meet next April 24 following the 5:30 p.m. council work session at City Hall.
