Roundup: Warriors complete comeback

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Valle Catholic baseball team scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth inning, and edged Fredericktown 11-10 for its 15th consecutive win on Tuesday.

Jacob Bieser finished 2-for-3 with a double, and Kellen Blum added a triple and single for the Warriors (17-2), who erased an early 8-1 deficit.

Fredericktown had an impressive day at the plate in defeat with 15 hits, including a pair from seven different players. But two errors helped to fuel the Valle Catholic comeback.

Colten Rehkop and Noah Korokis were each 2-for-3 with a double for the Blackcats (6-8). Starting pitcher Logan Winkelman allowed two earned runs on seven hits and fanned five in a no-decision.

Clark Penuel, Logan Watson, Justin DeBeaux, Isaak Starkey and Winkelman also collected two hits each. Jake Sullens chipped in a single.

Cole Wood was 2-for-2, and Kaden Bauman singled twice for the Warriors, who will host Ste. Genevieve on Thursday.

Ste. Genevieve 2, Arcadia Valley 1

IRONTON – Ste. Genevieve scored two runs in the third inning, and prevailed 2-1 as Arcadia Valley stranded eight men on base.

Jake Pryor suffered the loss despite recording 12 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. He allowed one earned run on just four hits.

Eli Vandergriff had an RBI single for Arcadia Valley (10-6) in the fourth. Trent Russell and Kyle Helms were each 2-for-3 at the plate.

Ste. Genevieve improved to 12-8 overall.

West County 7, Bismarck 1

LEADWOOD – Jacob Meinershagen scattered eight hits and struck out six in a complete game to lead West County past Bismarck 7-1 in conference play.

Jared Jones and Joey Steinmetz each finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Zach Francis drove in two runs with a single for the Bulldogs (9-2-1, 3-2).

Hayden Roney and Dake McRaven added two hits apiece while Matt Momot, Ty Simily, Tate Roberts and Meinershagen contributed singles to the offense.

Logan Dunn had three hits for Bismarck (11-4, 2-3).

Notre Dame 8, Arcadia Valley 1

IRONTON – Notre Dame stayed unbeaten at 8-0 on the boys tennis season with an 8-1 triumph at Arcadia Valley.

No. 1 singles player Jared Branstetter scored an 8-6 triumph for Arcadia Valley (4-6).

Potosi Invitational

POTOSI – The host school finished second to St. Clair in the boys and girls divisions on Monday in the rescheduled Potosi Invitational track and field meet.

The Potosi boys captured three event victories, including the 4×800 relay team of Caleb Gaylord, Caleb Jarvis, Darren Reese and Brett Lynch.

Gaylord also set the winning pace in the 800 while teammate Ethan Roland dominated the discus throw.

Tyreece Welch was a three-time champion, sprinting to a solo victory in the 200 while contributing to a pair of relay wins.

Jonathin Lambert took the long and triple jumps while Noah House soared to the best height in the pole vault for the Rebels.

Ryan Grein swept the hurdles and Jackson Drury prevailed in the 100 for Valle Catholic. Winthie Couch took first in the boys shot put for Fredericktown.

Potosi headlined six events on the girls side, including Madison DeClue (800), Skyler Stearns (1600) and Makenzie Buckley (3200) in distance races.

The Lady Trojans added 4×400 and 4×800 triumphs while Peyton Skiles cleared 6 feet, 1 inch in the high jump.

Central junior Caitlyn Holmes topped her personal best by 10 feet in the javelin, and Becca Voyles seized the 100-meter hurdles title for the Lady Rebels.

Sophomore Lainey Bauman starred for Valle Catholic by taking the girls 100, 200 and 400 dashes.
