R-I Board discusses upcoming events, projects

The Fredericktown R-I Board of Education met for its regular meeting on May 16 at the School District office to evaluate district programs and to discuss upcoming events.

The board approved evaluation reports from both the middle and intermediate school counseling programs, as well as the Parents as Teachers program.

The board approved a calendar change, setting the last day of school to May 24 due to a day missed because of area flooding. The board also approved the district’s substitute teacher list.

The board voted to hold a special board meeting on June 6 and to move the regularly scheduled June board meeting to June 27.

The board approved the sole fuel bid received by the district from Bauman Oil Distributors, Inc.

In his Superintendent’s report, Brett Reutzel said he had been further looking into ways to update the way the district communicates emergency situations to parents. He also said a location had been selected to plant the Liberty Tree being donated by the Missouri University Extension Office. The tree will be planted near the JROTC building in front of the high school.

Assistant High School Principal and Athletic Director Craig Gibbs said the actual gym floor was completely finished, although the floor will not be fully cured for another thirty days. Bleachers are expected to arrive for installation near the end of June.

Reutzel said the modular building project is on track, with the estimated delivery of the buildings beginning around June 25.

Reutzel and Director of Transportation Scott Sikes discussed a bus stop that a parent had voiced concern about, saying the stop had been investigated and the concern considered. The stop in question is located at the intersection of Cahoon Street and Park Drive.

The Fredericktown R-I Board of Education’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on June 27 at the school district offices.
