Bulldogs place third at 10U baseball regional

DENVER – The Mineral Area American all-stars recently finished third overall at the Cal Ripken baseball 10-and-under Midwest Plains regional tournament in Colorado.

The Missouri state champion Bulldogs opened with a 10-5 triumph over Bismarck (N.D.) after scoring six times in the fifth inning to erase a one-run deficit.

Benjamin Faulkner finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Nathaniel Guthrie doubled and drove in three.

Winning pitcher Ayden Sims recorded two strikeouts and allowed one run over three innings of relief. Brody Simily reached based three times and cross the plate twice for the Bulldogs.

Bradey Buhrmester doubled, Jaxon Campbell scored two runs and Hudsen Dunlap was 1-for-1.

The Missouri representatives returned later in the evening of July 20 and fell in a wild one, 17-13, after Lamar (Colo.) rallied for a 10-run outburst in the sixth inning.

Mineral Area grabbed a brief 8-7 advantage in the home half of the fifth following a five-run surge, and tallied 15 hits as a team.

Nolan Rawson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and four runs scored. Buhrmester picked up three RBI and Drew McClain slugged two doubles while adding three hits each.

Campbell chipped in two singles with three runs scored. Faulkner collected three RBI, and Levi Hale had a single and sacrifice.

The Bulldogs advanced from their pool with an emphatic 16-2 victory over the Nebraska state champs as Nolan Bradley combined with Campbell to strike out six batters in the four-inning contest.

Faulkner homered while going 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Campbell added two more hits with two runs scored as Mineral Area produced four doubles as a team.

Hale had three RBI while Rawson and Simily each drove in a pair. Hunter Minton and Sims tagged their first hits of the tournament, and Buhrmester scored three runs.

Host squad SE Denver emerged past Mineral Area 13-3 in the semifinal round of the championship bracket after generating 10 runs over the first two frames.

Simily and Faulkner were each 2-for-2 with a double to pace the Bulldogs. Kaiden Dickey singled along with Rawson and Campbell, while Hayden Todd and Hale provided stolen bases.

The tournament and postseason concluded on a high note for Mineral Area, thanks to a powerful 11-1 result against an opponent from Minnesota.

Rawson got the win on the mound by throwing the first 2 1/3 innings and striking out four. Bradley secured the last five outs of the combined 3-hitter.

Faulkner closed out his strong weekend with a triple, double and three RBI in the finale. Simily doubled twice while going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Buhrmester and Rawson likewise contributed two hits plus two runs scored to the winning effort. Campbell, Dunlap and Dickey also added hits.

The Bulldogs finished the postseason with a 9-2 record. They edged the neighboring Mineral Area National all-stars 11-10 in a thriller to qualify for regional action.
