Roundup: AV records sixth straight win

Arcadia Valley 2, Fredericktown 0

IRONTON – Freshman middle hitter Maddie Dement connected for eight kills while helping the Arcadia Valley volleyball team push its win streak to six matches on Tuesday.

Macey Browers totaled 29 assists, eight points and seven digs, and served as the Lady Tigers pulled away late in game one for an eventual 25-16, 25-12 triumph.

Arcadia Valley (6-1) was never threatened in game two after kills by Josie Landrum, Dement and Gracee Smith within a span of four points fueled a 7-2 start.

A flurry of passing and hitting errors factored in six consecutive lost points by Fredericktown (2-3) after a strong kill from Marissa Hale had brought the visitors within 13-9.

Laney Tucker finished with seven kills, including a pair as the Lady Tigers took command of the opening set by winning 10 of the last 12 points.

Callista Francis created an 11-11 tie with a placement shot, and Mallory Mathes again evened the game at 14-14 after Katelyn White made a tough dig for the Lady Blackcats.

Arcadia Valley had built a 10-6 advantage with a brief 4-0 run, only to be answered by a matching streak from Fredericktown.

Tucker spiked a second chance to present game point, and Smith capped the opener with an ace for one of her team-high nine points.

Karson Dement totaled six kills and nine digs for the Lady Tigers. Libero Katie Whited was strong along the back row with 12 digs, and Landrum added four kills.

Francis and Hale collected four kills each, and Mathes contributed three kills plus five digs for the Lady Blackcats. Abby Parson ended with eight digs after making several nice stops in the early moments.

Ste. Genevieve 2, Cape Notre Dame 1

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Avery Reed compiled 15 kills and four blocks, and Ste. Genevieve defeated Notre Dame 25-15, 19-25, 25-21.

Jennifer Humbolt added 14 kills, and Drue Lalumandier tallied 29 assists for the Dragons (7-2-1).

Ali Grass had two blocks while Haley Grass, Megan Schweigert, Lalumandier, and Humbolt each served an ace.

Ste. Genevieve split two sets with the Bulldogs during pool play at the Notre Dame Tournament last Friday.

SOFTBALL

Farmington 16, Fredericktown 0

FREDERICKTOWN – Farmington scored six runs in the first inning to set the dominant tone against Fredericktown in conference softball action.

Alyson Tucker totaled five RBI on two hits for the Knights, who added six more runs in the second and won 16-0 in three innings.

Makenna LaChance went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI for Farmington (4-4, 3-1). Pitcher Sophia White pitched an abbreviated no-hitter with five strikeouts.

Hannah Wood had two hits along with two RBI. White contributed a triple, and Allyson Helms singled with two RBI.

Jocelyn Cunningham struck out 14 in the junior varsity game for Farmington.

North County 14, Potosi 3

POTOSI – Emma Becker provided another potent offensive game to help first-place North County roll past Potosi 14-3 in six innings.

Becker finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, and launched her seventh home run of the season during a five-run North County (9-2, 4-0) outburst in the fifth inning.

Samantha Payne was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Emma Keen doubled and singled with two RBI for the Lady Raiders.

Michaela Mason contributed a triple and a single with two RBI, and Molly Moore posted two hits. Maizie Tyree, Kennedy Kohler, and Kiersdan Davis each tallied a hit.

Mason threw a complete game for the win, striking out seven with no walks allowed. Sydney Litton was the losing pitcher for Potosi (1-6, 1-3), giving up 15 hits and fanning four.

Emma Eaton notched two hits for the Lady Trojans. Kennedy Coleman, Jaci Short, Jordayn Mercer, Kiley Price, and Hannah Jarvis each finished with one.

TENNIS

Farmington 9, Arcadia Valley 0

FARMINGTON – The Farmington girls tennis team took each match in singles and doubles play against Arcadia Valley for a 9-0 victory.

The closest match arrived at the No. 2 singles spot where Abby Jent defeated Bethany Musser 8-5.

Farmington (4-2, 4-0) secured five separate 8-1 results against Arcadia Valley (1-3, 1-2). Faith Nelson and Savannah Rippee won via shutout.

Potosi 6, North County 3

POTOSI – Molly Hamby and Sarah Hornsey prevailed without dropping a singles game, and Potosi beat North County 6-3 for its second victory of the season.

Emily Missey and Maggie Portell also notched singles wins for Potosi (2-5, 2-2), which also picked up two of three doubles contests.

North County (0-5, 0-4) scored wins from top players Jamie O’Hara and Megan Matlock. They combined for an 8-6 doubles triumph in the closest match of the day.
