Madison County Wood Products employees help hurricane relief efforts

Employees at Madison County Wood Products took it upon themselves to raise $5,020 in funds for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

Owners Paul Gaines and Bryan Kesting mentioned the idea of a fundraiser to their employees and the project grew from there.

“Our first goal was $1,000 but then the bosses came in and upped the amount to $2,500 which motivated us even more,” Employee, Glenda Smith said.

The company pledged to match funds up to $2,500.

“Everybody kind of went in their own direction of how they wanted to raise the money,” Cindy Ferguson said. “There were raffles and different fundraisers that others did.”

“It is exciting,” said Kesting. “It is one thing when Paul and I as owners want to do something but when the rest of the team steps up it’s really neat.”

“The victims in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida will get impacted by the generosity of our people but at the same time that spurs the excitement amongst our people too,” Gaines said. “They get blessed just by doing it.”

Gaines said it was nice to see the employees come together and work on a “get to” thing not a “have to” thing. He said all the team development over the past year has been amazing.

“If someone is in need of something and you have it to give them that’s what you are supposed to do,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson said they are already planning to have more fundraisers over the holiday season.
