North County homecoming parade Friday

The North County School District is celebrating their 50th anniversary this week, with each day carrying a theme for spirit week, leading up to their homecoming day. On Friday the parade is set for 1:45 p.m. in Bonne Terre and 2:45 p.m. in Desloge and that evening the North County Raiders football team will face the Hillsboro Hawks.

Each year the district has a homecoming celebration, but this year is extra special with it being their 50th anniversary.

North County Athletic Director Chad Mills said they were able to get approximately 30 of the former homecoming queens from the last 50 years and they will be in the parade.

“This year’s theme is ‘Decades’ and we will have the queens on themed floats in the parade,” said Mills. “We invited the former queens to come back to ride in the parade and we will also recognize them during halftime at the football game.”

The parade will run through Bonne Terre and Desloge and parade participants will first line up at 1 p.m. behind Bonne Terre City Hall. At 1:45 p.m. they will go south on N. Allen Street to Benham, then west on Benham to Division, south on Division to School Street, east on School Street and end at the library.

They will then proceed with police to Old Bonne Terre Road and head to Desloge to line up at 2:25 p.m. near the Desloge City Hall for the second part of the parade. At 2:45 p.m. they will go south on Lincoln to Chestnut, then east on Chestnut to Madison, and then to Walnut where they will disband.

Mills said they have more parade entries than last year and he believes it is well over 40 floats. That evening the coronation will take place at 6:30 p.m. prior to the 7 p.m. football game.

Parking will be available at the high school campus and Raider Road. There will be golf carts running up and down Raider Road giving rides to the campus.

This year’s themes for spirit week were hippies or flippies on Monday, on Tuesday students dressed the way they thought they would look like in 50 years, Wednesday is decade day, Thursday is class color day and Friday is blue and gold day.

This year there are 14 Homecoming candidates and one couple will be crowned during the football game. This year’s candidates are seniors Anna Gantz, Briley Smith, Sydney Revelle, Devon Mason, Amanda Byrd, Chance Peery, Bailey Seaton, Jacob Waller, Jaysa Proffer and Tucker Smith.
