Local business destroyed by fire

A long standing Park Hills business was destroyed by a mid-morning fire over the weekend.

At about 9:45 a.m. Saturday the Park Hills Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Domino’s Pizza located at 114 W. Main Street.

According to Store Manager Matt Pitt, he arrived shortly after the fire department and the fire was already moving through the entire building.

“When I first got here flames were already coming through the roof and the smoke was already pretty heavy,” Pitt said. “Just a few minutes later the fire broke the windows out. I contacted the general manager and she called the owner. I’m just glad no one was hurt.”

According to one of the owners, Steve Wampler, the pizzeria had been in business since December of 1987, but he and his partner had only owned it for the last eight years.

“We were looking for a new location, but this just accelerates the process,” Wampler said. “We own the Domino’s in Farmington and Bonne Terre, so we will try and service the area the best we can.”

Assisting the Park Hills firefighters were crews from De Soto Rural, Big River, Bismarck, Bonne Terre, Leadington, Farmington, Wolf Creek and Desloge.

Initially the cause of the fire was unknown but was later determined to have been caused by an electrical problem. The state fire marshal’s office was called to the scene per policy for blazes involving a retail business.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
