Crown releases Bourbon Barrel Norton

Crown Valley Winery has released the first Missouri Bourbon barrel-aged wine.

Crown Valley Winery lies on the scenic countryside of Ste. Genevieve County and is known for its Norton.

A press release states, “We are proud to be launching a new release of our most fruit forward Norton aged in Bourbon whiskey barrels. We have been on a journey to perfecting Norton so we decided to take it to the next evolution by harvesting the grapes at optimum ripeness and hand sorting at crush.

“By cold soaking the grapes before fermenting, we were able to extract more color and flavor. We allowed the Norton wine to interact for 12 months in American oak followed by Rye Bourbon whiskey barrels while tasting it periodically till we reached the perfect balance.”

According to the winery, the process gives the Norton a whole new character resulting in a deep, dark, red wine. It opens up with the rich fragrance of blackberry and black currant enhanced with toasted oak and smoke, followed by a blend of sweet fruit, a layer of vanilla-cocoa flavor, soft tannins and a long lingering finish.
