Roundup: Bulldogs bring attack to Kingston

LEADWOOD – Consecutive transition layups by Noah Vinson indicated right away that the West County boys basketball team would attack at every opportunity on Friday night.

Vinson scored 16 points to lead four teammates in double figures, and the Bulldogs limited themselves to seven turnovers in a 70-47 triumph over Kingston.

Hayden Roney and Nate Kinnard each grabbed nine rebounds, and created several extra chances along the offensive glass for West County (6-7, 1-0).

Three straight baskets were earned through assists from the lane, and Roney finished a feed by Kinnard for an early 15-6 advantage.

Kielan Reyes opened each of the first two quarters with jumpers for the visitors, but Kingston (5-10, 0-2) struggled to settle in at times against double-team pressure near the sidelines.

Kinnard easily converted on a fast break for a 24-11 lead, and Dake McRaven knocked down a pair of 3-pointers off the bench to fuel a 32-19 halftime margin.

Kinnard tallied 13 points and Reid Pratt had 12 while Roney chipped in 11 and McRaven had nine. Pratt sank two pull-up jumpers for West County in the third quarter.

Roney and Vinson scored cutting layups on the heels of offensive rebounds, and the Bulldogs stretched the difference to 49-28 entering the fourth.

Kingston ran two successful inbounds plays in the third stanza for Cole Ragan, who capitalized each time with an uncontested layup and 3-pointer while pacing his club with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Eli Hongsermeier-Baxter was a factor inside for the Cougars with nine rebounds and six blocks, but also notched 12 points to equal the scoring total for Reyes.

Farmington 73, Fredericktown 35

FREDERICKTOWN – Cole Laurence returned to full strength with 16 points and eight rebounds to help Farmington dominate Fredericktown 73-35 in the MAAA Large-School opener.

Tycen Gray posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Bryce Sancegraw distributed eight assists in the victory.

The Knights (7-5, 1-0) sprinted out to a 25-5 lead after one quarter, and pushed the halftime margin to 39-11 over the host Blackcats (5-9, 0-1)

Brendon Hardy scored 14 points, and Cody Wright provided eight for Farmington.

Valle Catholic 59, Bismarck 33

STE. GENEVIEVE – Valle Catholic doubled up Bismarck 26-13 at halftime, and rolled 59-33 at home to capture its second conference win.

Ryan Grein netted a game-high 24 points for the Warriors (6-6, 2-0), who emerged from the first quarter of action with a 15-6 lead.

Tim Mork scored 13 points, and Logan Dunn added seven for Bismarck (3-10, 0-1).

Arcadia Valley 58, Jefferson 48

IRONTON – Carter Brogan matched Peyton Whited with 13 points each, and dished out five assists to lead Arcadia Valley to a 58-48 non-conference victory over Jefferson.

Jeremiah Moore added 11 points while Takota Jones compiled 11 rebounds, seven points and three steals for Arcadia Valley (7-6).

Jefferson was paced by Jon Weik with 12 points and Daniel McWhorter with 10 more.
