Community Foundation partners with SEMO Food Bank

Sikeston– The Community Foundation serving Inland Southern California (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties), recently donated $10,000 for the purchase of canned vegetables for Faith Family Worship of Fredericktown.

Faith Family is a member agency of Southeast Missouri Food Bank and will be able to supplement the box of food that 110 struggling senior citizens receive monthly in Madison County. These seniors are at an increased risk for diabetes and the assorted canned and dry items will support improved health outcomes.

“We very much thank The Community Foundation and SEMO Food Bank for helping us feed the senior citizens in our community!” says Pastor Buck Proffer with Faith Family Worship.

Food Bank CEO Karen Green says, “We are deeply grateful to The Community Foundation for caring about the health of our senior citizens in Madison County.”

Diet-related, chronic diseases are reported by 58 percent of senior citizens in Madison County served by SEMO Food Bank agencies. This is significantly higher than the 45 percent reported by senior clients in the rest of the Food Bank’s service region.
