Local warming centers available

With dangerously cold wind chill values colder than -15 F expected overnight Monday into Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for the entire area.

The city of Farmington is providing a warm place during the day at any of its facilities. Those facilities include the Farmington Public Library, 101 N. A St. which is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday; and the Farmington Civic Center, which is open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Those needing a warm place for the night are asked to call the Farmington Police Department at 756-6686 in order to make arrangements to stay in the training room at the Farmington Fire Department, located at 222 E. Columbia St. in downtown Farmington.

Alan Wells, St. Francois County 911 director, said all fire stations and ambulance districts throughout the county will also be available as warming centers, as needed.
