Quest Club holds January meeting

The Fredericktown Quest Club held it’s January meeting at the home of member Diana Thompson.

Diana presented us with a program on the “History of Quilts and Quilting Making.”

Quilts have quite the history. Some of the earliest examples were found in Egyptian Tombs and in China about 5,000 years ago. There are so many types – patchwork, crazy, traditional and many more. Diana explained how they were made (different patterns, materials, etc) and showed us many examples from her collection. Many were really beautiful and interesting showing the different styles and designs.

Quilting bees were very popular – great for socializing. Many were used during the wars for raising money for war efforts. During the Civil Wars quilts were used at “safe houses” to help slaves in their efforts for freedom.

Many of these quilts are being passed down from generation to generation as prized heirlooms. A lot of history is incorporated in these quilts.

A short business meeting was held, and food and visiting with one another were enjoyed.

Diana Thompson shows how different styles of quilts were made.
