Forbes recognized again by Region 16

Mineral Area freshman forward Holly Forbes has been named Region 16 Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week (Feb. 5-11) for a third time this season.

The Lady Cardinals beat Jefferson 65-44 in their lone contest last week. Forbes was key in keeping the upset-minded Vikings at bay with her leadership and relentless defensive efforts, especially during the fourth quarter.

Mineral Area stretched a modest seven-point lead through three periods by outscoring Jefferson 28-14 over the final 10 minutes, including an 18-0 run.

Forbes recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and joined Moberly center Anisha George as the second three-time award honoree this winter.

The North County graduate continues to lead the team by averaging 14.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, along with a 60.3 field goal percentage that ranks 12th nationally.
