Crowder drills Lady Cards after halftime

NEOSHO, Mo. – Nicole Ickes scored 16 points, and Crowder dominated the third quarter on Monday to avenge an earlier Region 16 loss against the Mineral Area women.

Michaela Mack netted 15 points, Zahria White added 13 and the Lady ‘Riders converted 18-of-21 free throws to prevail 73-50 in a game that was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Crowder (20-7, 6-2) increased a narrow 27-24 halftime edge by outscoring the visiting Lady Cardinals 28-12 over the next 10 minutes.

Mineral Area (15-10, 4-5) shot just 28 percent from the field in the second half, and saw any chance to claim a first-round bye in the upcoming region tournament vanish.

The Lady Cardinals were forced into a quick turnaround following a grueling overtime contest at Three Rivers on Saturday night, and will cap a three-game road stretch this weekend at State Fair.

Ella Gobald and Makenzy Smith each finished with 10 points, and Holly Forbes totaled eight points with eight rebounds for Mineral Area.

Mary Katherine Tucker added nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Allie Golden chipped in six points with eight rebounds, and Briar Johnson pulled away seven boards.

Crowder committed only six turnovers in the game, and grabbed a 16-12 lead through one quarter.
