Elk

An elk caused some excitement Monday morning as commuters saw the animal wondering around the local Hardee's. Madison County Conservation Agent Clayton Lewis later discovered it was a privately owned elk and the owner was working on corralling it back home. Lewis said when citizens see animals on the loose like this they should contact him at 573-934-0824 or call the Madison County Sheriff's Office at 573-783-2234. He added it is important to keep your distance and not approach the animal, take note of location and the direction the animal is heading.
