Trivia night honors Dr. Seuss

The Desloge Chamber of Commerce has chosen children’s author and illustrator Dr. Seuss as the theme for its annual Trivia Night being held Friday at Stone Park Resort, 8614 Berry Road, in Bonne Terre.

The day marks what would have been the 114th birthday of the late author and illustrator whose real name was Theodor Geisel. One of the most popular writers of children’s literature in the world, it is estimated that Dr. Seuss books have sold about 500 million copies to date.

“Make sure you dress up as a Dr. Seuss character,” said Paige Faircloth, chamber executive director. “We’re going to be giving away $100 to the best dressed person of the evening.”

According to Faircloth, registration begins at 6 p.m., with the trivia contest following at 7. The cost is $10 per person, with up to 10 players per team.

“We encourage people to come by the chamber office at 200 N. Lincoln St. to sign up, but you can also register the night of the event,” she said. “We have a limit of 20-25 tables, so the more the merrier.”

Along with the trivia, there will also be a 50/50 drawing, Heads and Tails game, door prize giveaways and a silent auction.

“We have 10 round sponsors and a lot of good silent auction prizes,” she said. “One of my friends works for the Baltimore Ravens in the donations department and so I got her to send me a signed picture of the team.

“As far as food, Little Caesars is donating pizzas. Tea and coffee will be provided and there will also be a cash bar. Everyone is invited to bring their own snacks too. It’s going to be a fun night and everyone’s invited. You don’t have to be a member of the chamber or even from Desloge.”

Round sponsors for trivia night include Belgrade State Bank, First State Community Bank, New Era Bank, the city of Desloge, McDonald’s, Parkland Health Mart, Edward Jones, Casey’s General Store, Patrick King and Signs Etc.

A large crowd takes part in a previous Desloge Chamber of Commerce trivia night fundraiser held at Stone Park Resort in Bonne Terre. This year's trivia night is set for Friday with a theme of Mardi Gras. Doors at the Lincoln Street Event Center open at 6 p.m. and trivia starts at 6:30 p.m.
