PBS assembly at NC Primary

North County Primary students recently took part in an assembly that focused on reminding the students to be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible.

North County Primary Assistant Principal Laura Momot said Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is a data-driven support system that teaches and reinforces positive behavior and character attributes.

“We have had a winter assembly the past few years and we had our PBS kids, who are kids who work in the building and help out there,” said Momot. “They are role model students and each one is chosen by something they have done or for something that made them stand out for in school.”

Momot said during the assembly they had the North County High School cheerleaders come over and they did a couple really cool routines for the kids.

“They also made up a couple PBS cheers they led the students in and chanted ‘PBS, PBS,’” Momot said. “They did cheers and chants and we joined in with them. The Raiderettes also did a couple of their dances and the kids loved that.”

She added they had Rowdy Raider, North County’s mascot there and he was dancing and putting on some pretty good dance moves.

“The kids were just cracking up over that and really liked it,” said Momot. “The whole thing is based around promoting positive behavior, our PBS that we have in our building reinforces and teaches positive behavior and character attributes, such as being safe, respectful and responsible.”

Approximately 700 students were in attendance at the assembly ranging from kindergarten through second grade. Everyone in the building attends.

“Our PBS kids are kids who are chosen for many attributes,” said Momot. “They each wrote something, a note, about things such as why you should be good on the bus or how to be safe on the playground, another one wrote what you should be doing to be safe, respectful and responsible in the classroom.”

Momot explained the PBS kids will go around and pick up cans when they have the canned food drives and help with other things.

“They are like the leaders in the building and they are all second grade students,” Momot said. “This year’s assembly was a huge success and I want to thank everyone who made it possible and the sponsors for helping make the assembly fun and entertaining. The staff and students enjoyed the assembly.”
