Rotary hosts 2018 high school awards dinner

The Fredericktown Rotary Club hosted its 2018 High School Awards Dinner, April 16, at Pinecrest Camp and Conference Center.

Dennis Siders with the club’s scholarship committee discussed rotary’s commitment to local schools and fundraisers which support the three scholarships the club awards.

Fredericktown High School Principal Shannon Henson recognized the students of the month. Each month a different department at the school nominates a boy and a girl as student of the month. The English Department nominated Abby Lee and Brent Turnbaugh. Math selected Olivia Ebert and Colton Rehkop. Counselors chose Katelyn Evans and Alex Hyatt. Emily Goldsmith and Peyton Francis were picked for PE. Science students were Lily Brewington and Craigory Crome. Vocational selections were Jenna Martindale-Wood and Clark Penuel. For social studies, the students were Jacquelyn Cowsert and Daniel Bathe.

The three recipients of the $2,000 Rotary Scholarships were Johnee Hargis, Savannah Hinkle and Carson Stephens.

The special guest speaker for the evening was Southeast Missouri State University President Dr. Carlos Vargas.
