MAC jazz concert to honor MLK

A jazz performance celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Mineral Area College Fine Arts Theater. The free performance features the MAC Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo.

The concert will feature music that highlights the role of jazz-as-protest-music and as a musical expression of the spiritual struggle for human rights. The performance will include music by Nat Adderley, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Horace Silver and Charlie Parker, as well as the world premiere of an original composition by MAC student Victoria Chandler of Bonne Terre.

For more information about the performance, contact Music Instructor Dr. Bennett Wood, 573-518-2256 and bwood@mineralarea.edu.
