West County leads MAAA spring softball picks

West County faced its strongest challenge from Valle Catholic in conference and district tournament finals on the softball diamond this spring.

Those two schools combined for seven of the 10 First Team spots as MAAA coaches officially released their all-conference selections on Wednesday.

The Lady Bulldogs ran the table once again with an 8-0 regular season, and edged Valle Catholic 4-3 last week for a district crown before being clipped by Clearwater 5-4 in a state sectional game.

Junior pitcher Ivy Meinershagen earned a First Team nod along with three West County teammates, including lone senior and right fielder Tristin Martin.

Freshman shortstop Dori McRaven and the speedy Hannah Myers headline a youth movement that suggests future success for the Lady Bulldogs, who finished 18-5 overall.

Valle Catholic (17-9) achieved its school record for wins and reached a district final for the first time, resulting in three First Team honorees.

Senior shortstop Taylor Siebert and catcher Kaydi Heil were recognized for the highest tier in addition to infielder Olivia Meyer.

Bismarck pitcher Madelynn Womack and junior Brooklynn Fitzwater are also First Team performers along with Kingston standout Alyssa Downey.
