Mark Griggs Memorial Kiwanis Golf Tournament scheduled for June 8

Local golfers are invited to tee up for a good cause with the Mark Griggs Memorial Kiwanis Golf Tournament. The event, hosted by the Farmington Kiwanis Club, will be June 8 at Crown Pointe Golf Club with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Kiwanis of Farmington Mark Griggs Memorial Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, Inc, a 501c3 organization. The tournament is a four-person scramble featuring multiple prizes including a hole in one prize sponsored by Sam Scism Motors. Lunch will be included with team fees, and refreshments are sponsored by Bluff City Beer and The Printing Co.

Each year the Farmington Kiwanis Club funds the Mark Griggs Memorial Kiwanis Scholarship for some very lucky Farmington High School students who will be attending Mineral Area College. The awards vary each year depending on the fundraising activities of the previous year. This year, three scholarships will be awarded totaling $4,500 to Kenneth Whitworth, Alysa Massey and Arianna Kaley for demonstrating a commitment to continue their education.

Sponsor opportunities are available and there are a few slots open for teams. Please show your support of local higher education by contacting Amanda Griggs-Farrell at 573-366-8301. For more information please visit www.farmingtonkiwanis.org.

“This tournament funds our scholarship program for local students,” said Amanda Griggs-Farrell, tournament co-chair. “Renamed in 2006 to ‘The Mark Griggs Memorial Kiwanis Annual Golf Tournament’ after the passing of Mark Griggs, my father and a Kiwanis member who loved golf and saw the value of education, this tournament has been a long-standing successful fundraiser for our Farmington Kiwanis Club.

“There are many opportunities for the non-golfers to support us, as well as promote their businesses including hole sponsors, beverage cart sponsors, goody bag donations, door prize donations and game sponsors.”

The Kiwanis can arrange pickup of donations or they may be dropped off at Redfield Collision Center at 114 Walker Drive.
