Club honors ‘Yard of the Season’

The Nancy Weber Garden Club awarded its Spring Yard of the Season Award to Nicole and Tom Joyce in Farmington.

The couple moved to the area about five years ago. Little by little, their gardening projects grew. In all, their yard hosts about 10 different gardens filled with a variety of perennial and annual flowers and shrubs such as Asian lilies, daffodils, day lilies, roses, burning bushes, butterfly flowers and hostas.

Nicole estimates there are about 500 tulip plants. She chuckles as she says, “I retired from paid work and now our gardens are a full-time job.”

Within the past year, Tom and Nicole began work on a 60-foot circular garden with the focus being a monarch butterfly way station. The host plants include orange milkweed for the caterpillars and a variety of nectar-producing plants for the adult butterflies during their migration.
