Detour scheduled during stormwater, sidewalk improvements

Continued work on stormwater and sidewalk improvements in Farmington will have traffic detours and a temporary “no parking” area for one area of town.

On Friday, the Public Works Department for the city of Farmington released information stating the southbound lane of Henry Street between Carter and Walter Streets will close beginning Tuesday.

Traffic will detour east on Carter Street to Carleton, then continue south to Walter Street, then west on Walter Street to Henry Street.

A temporary “no parking” is requested on Carter Street and Carleton Street during the duration of the detour.

The northbound lane of Henry Street will have intermittent closures – however, the release states a detour is not necessary at this time.

The work schedule for the project is dependent upon the weather and barring any unforeseen issues as well. Drivers are encouraged to be aware of delays and use caution in this work zone.

Crews with Kimes Contracting began work along Henry Street in Farmington on June 7 – in particular, the section between Carter Street and Old Fredericktown Road south of the downtown area.

New sidewalks are being constructed along the western part of the roadway. A previous press release from the department said no long-term road closures are anticipated for the project – however, there will periodically be short-term lane closures and motorists are encouraged to use caution and slow down when traveling in the area.

The Farmington City Council approved a contract on May 10 with Kimes Contracting LLC for sidewalk installation along Henry Street up to Old Fredericktown Road.

The contract is in the amount of $201,676.50. Other costs for the project include design engineering in the amount of $22,632 and construction inspection in the amount of $14,639.04 with Cochran Engineering.
