All-state baseball team contains six from Valle

The Valle Catholic baseball program recently claimed its fourth state championship in five years after a versatile roster strung together nine consecutive wins.

Six members of that starting lineup received individual recognition last week as the MHSBCA announced its all-state selections for each enrollment class.

Senior Chris Loida and juniors Carter Roth and Tyler Blum not only comprised the top of the Warriors’ order, but also served versatile defensive roles while earning First Team status.

Loida was the undisputed ace of the pitching staff, and wrapped up his third all-state campaign overall. The right-hander threw complete games in each of his three postseason starts, including a three-hitter against Skyline in the state semifinals.

He was placed in the DH/Utility category for Class 2 because of solid offensive production. Tyler Blum anchored the Valle infield at shortstop while leadoff man Carter Roth patrolled center field.

Junior catcher Kyle Roth landed Second Team distinction, while senior third baseman Jacob Bieser and pitcher/second baseman Kellen Blum picked up all-state Honorable Mention.

Valle Catholic was among three district champions from the MAAA conference. Potosi (Class 4) and West County (Class 3) eventually reached the state quarterfinals.

Junior first baseman Ty Simily was a dangerous threat at the plate for the Bulldogs, who narrowly missed out on a second straight final four appearance.

Simily upgraded to First Team all-state this spring, and West County junior pitcher/infielder Zach Francis became a repeat Second Team choice.

Potosi was surprisingly given just a single nod in Class 4 as junior shortstop Noah Jacobsen returned from a shoulder injury to garner Honorable Mention.

Six MAAA schools were represented with at least one all-state performer, although Large-School co-champs North County and Ste. Genevieve were snubbed.

Central shared a three-way tie atop that division, and senior lefty Dillon Manion landed a Second Team spot as one of the steadiest pitchers from the entire southeast region.

Arcadia Valley senior outfielder Isaiah Gibbs is on the Class 3 Second Team, and senior catcher Tatum Jones earned Honorable Mention as repeat honorees.

Junior pitcher and center fielder Logan Dunn landed Class 2 Honorable Mention for Bismarck.

Valle Catholic pitcher and infielder Chris Loida (2) has earned his second First Team all-state selection and third overall after helping the Warriors collect their fifth state baseball championship last month.
