Time capsule opening tonight
The organizers of Bismarck’s Freedom Fest will open a time capsule tonight that was placed in cement near Bismarck Airport during the city’s 100th anniversary in 1968.
The event coincides with the town’s 150th anniversary being celebrated this year.
A special ceremony will be held to open the time capsule at 7 p.m. in the new high school gymnasium. All of the capsule’s contents will remain on display in the gym on the Fourth of July during the city’s Freedom Fest celebration.
Also, the city’s old train depot, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, will be open throughout the day Wednesday for people to view train memorabilia and enjoy free refreshments.

Late last month Bismarck Fire Chief John Colwell begins breaking open a cement block in which a time capsule was placed in 1968 on the occasion of the town’s 100th anniversary. It will be opened at 7 p.m. tonight in the high school gymnasium.
