Central Choir to perform with Foreigner

Students in Central High School’s choir program will experience the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of performing onstage with an internationally-renowned rock group later this month after being selected through a St. Louis area contest.

Choir Director Bethany Ward said the contest the choir entered was called “Foreigner Choir Rockstar,” through St. Louis-based radio station 103.3 KLOU. To enter the contest, Ward submitted a video of the CHS concert choir singing the chorus of Foreigner’s 1984 single “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

The choir was then notified via email that they had been named finalists as well as a St. Louis area high school choir, with the next step being community voting to decide the winner over a week period. Ward said through exceptional community support, the CHS concert choir received enough votes to be named the winners of the contest.

On July 18, the concert choir will travel to the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater and will experience Foreigner’s live performance from venue seating through most of the concert, before taking the stage for the finale performance of “I Want to Know What Love Is” alongside Foreigner.

Ward said the performance will require no intense rehearsal process, as the choir will only be singing the chorus of the song in unison with the band, which she said will be relatively easy for such a skilled group of singers.

“The choir wants to take the time to say ‘thank you’ to all who helped to get us on stage by voting and sharing the link,” Ward said. “We hope to see our friends and family at the concert and encourage you to continue supporting the choir throughout the school year as we prepare for numerous concerts and performances.”

The Central High School Concert Choir will be performing later this month at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in St. Louis alongside internationally-renowned rock band Foreigner.
