Van Lee Schmick
FARMINGTON – Van Lee Schmick of Farmington passed away July 12, 2018, at St. Anthony’s in St. Louis at the age of 71. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 25, 1946, to the late Ferdinand George Schmick and Vera Lee (VanWinkle) Schmick. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jason Ross Schmick.
Van’s career was in the United States Air Force having proudly served for twenty years. After retirement he and his wife, Marilyn made their home in Doniphan before moving to Farmington in 2014 to be near their daughter and her family. Van will be most remembered for his keen sense of humor and being a jokester. He loved his three cats and enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels in his yard. Van was known to take on many a do-it-yourself project. Most important to Van, however, was his family, including his beloved grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marilyn Kay (Hopkins) Schmick, his children, Lisa Vaughan, Lee Hornyak, David Hornyak, Tracy Kennedy, Natasha Smith, Cody Schmick and Tory Epperson; seventeen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one brother, Thomas Wayne Schmick.
